Nisi - settlement
The extended ruins of the settlement that were excavated at Nisi hill can be found north of the modern settlement of Eleftherna at a distance of approximately 500 m from the elementary school.
The remains cover two areas. The area around the peak of the hill is covered by ruins of a settlement dated back to the Hellenistic period. The rock build houses of the settlement have averagely 5-6 roofed areas around an internal yard and the total area, including the outdoor spaces, does not exceed the 200-250 square meters.
The small ceramic furnaces present a particular interest in two of the four excavated houses. In the closer area of this part of the settlement many burnt shells have been additionally observed, which is an indication that the production of ceramic objects was a main activity for the residents during the Hellenistic era.
The settlement seems that it was created -although no remains of this era have been found until today- during the Late Geometric or Pre-Archaic era.
The chronically earlier findings -imported or locally produced shells - indicate that its residents abandoned the settlement approximately during the 1st century B.C. that is, the period of the Eleftherna invasion from the Roman troops.
