Thanasis Skordalos
Thanasis Skordalos was born in December 1920 at Spili, Rethymno. He first held a lyre in his hands when he was 9 years old. At the age of nineteen, he made his first official appearance at the carnival fete of Cretan people living in Athens, at historical "Vizantio" at Omonoia.
Thanasis Skordalos forst appeared in discography in 1946, with the famous "Spiliano sirto" together with lute player Giannis Markogiannakis.
During his long career, he appeared in many fetes for Cretans immigrants in America, Australia, Canada and Africa.
Thanasis Skordalos, after serving Cretan music for 60 years, passed away on 23 April 1998, at the age of 78.
