Koxare
In the southeast of Koxare, a peak sanctuary of the middle Minoan era has been found, as well as statuettes picturing humans or animals, while tombs of the late Minoan era have been excavated. The first evidence of residence in the wider area date back to the middle Minoan years: on the mountains of Kouroupa, on a 735 m altitude, in 1989, the British School of Archaeology excavated and found an outdoor sanctuary of rural characteristics that covers an area of about 200 s.m. It stretches on two mounds limited by two natural rocks that form the "precinct" of the sanctuary.
