Alones
This village has 100 residents. It is 38 km far from Rethymno and it is built on a 510 m altitude at the foot of Krioneritis Mountain. It has Agio Pnevma on one side and Kathara and Mandali on the other side. The village was given this name (Alones means threshing place) because it is built in a shape that reminds of a threshing place. It is mentioned in the 1577 census by Fr. Barozzi Alones, and in the 1583 census by Kastrofilakas with the name Allones and 117 residents. The village on the left and right side of a stream. The name is a superlative of the word "aloni" (threshing place).
