Fragkokastello

1. Agios Stratigos: The basilica of Agios Stratigos lies in the northwest of Fragkokastello at a 1.5 km distance approximately. It was built in the second half of the 6th century AD. According to S. Hood, it was the religious center of an extensive and prosperous dorp. Nowadays, only a few ruins of Agios Stratigos are saved.

2. Agios Nikitas: The basilica of Agios Nikitas is in the valley of Fragkokastello of Sfakia, at a short distance from the coast of the Libyan Sea. The present church was built on the ruins of the middle aisle of an early Christian basilica.

3. Agios Haralabos: The church of Agios Haralabos is near Fragkokastello castle and south of the early Christian basilica of Agios Nikitas. At the same site, there is a single-naved arched church of Agios Haralabos. The church is an important sample of the late meta-Byzantine Cretan tradition.
