Kaloniktis
The village of Kaloniktis is built on a 270 m altitude and belongs to the Municipality of Nikiforos Fokas. It is 15 km far from Rethymno.
During the Venetian occupation it is mentioned by Barotzi in 1577, by Kastrofilakas in 1583 and by Vizantios Houmourtzis.
Today, the village has 180 residents and is full of traditional buildings, as well as various buildings and a mill of the Venetian era.
The parish church, which id dedicated to the birth of Theotokos, is a Byzantine monument and it celebrates on 8 September.
