Spili

The village of Spili is 30 km far from Rethymno, at the foot of a small mountain, which is an extension of the well-known Mountain Kedros. It was named after a little cave at Peristere site. Spili is the capital of the former county of Agios Vasileios, a transport hub for southern Crete and an ideal destination for summer holidays. At the small square with the sycamore trees, there are 25 fountains - embossed lion heads with cold water from Psiloreitis. From here, narrow streets go up to the upper neighbourhoods of the village, with the old houses and the marvellous view.
